I really feel and believe that I’ve worked hard at part 1 and I know where I’m going. My tutor was a little concerned about some of the ethics and permissions for using some drawings based on a friends child and I answered these concerns in my feedback. Cheryl is really good and I’m glad she raises these really important issues. I have downloaded all the necessary consent form templates and the suggested considerations to ensure information isn’t compromised and that any participants are protected in regard to their well being and their information. I had completed the Future Learn course prior to beginning Advanced Practice and the Research module. The course provided a good overview of legislation and the need to protect anyone’s human rights as a result of the outcome of the Nuremburg trials. Cheryl also referred me to the Enterprise Hub at OCA and to reflect on the content. I have considered the OCA’s policy on Safeguarding both in regard to my own conduct and any collaborative participants in creating my exhibition and the body of work but also as it applies to anyone attending the exhibition. Other relevant policies are the data protection documents including GDPR and confidentiality policies. Having briefly looked at the structures of the policies I need to check out if there is a specific policy on students conducting a public exhibition. On a personal level I already have £500.000 public liability insurance as an artist and member of the Society of All Artists. Safeguarding and the protection of individuals has always been central to what I do. It’s a way of life and as and when I need to put the policies into place I will ensure all the necessary concerns and issues are covered.
She mentioned the drawing of the vomiting child and suggested documenting one or two of the works in stages. I shall try hard to undertake an animation and she made some great suggestions on how I might approach this. She made some interesting comment around how I was also exploring colour as this changes the temperature of the drawing on a psychological basis. She also questioned the use of the terms gory or gruesome and that I need to consider what I’m trying to explore. There was a fabulous link she suggested around social engagement and activism from the British Council and I’ve pasted the page and downloaded the content. I’ve downloaded the stopmotion studio app to my desktop. I also watched the suggested Amy Sillman’s video’s. As I consider undertaking the video work I begin to note how they are don with the camera and the work needing to be in the same position with each frame. I shall document this. I tested out this theory with using the drawing of a horse that I’d done. I hadn’t got enough shots for animation to work and I could see how important correct alignment is.
Other artists to consider were Marlene Dumas, Otto Dix, George Grosz, Kathe Kollwitz Peasants Revolt series. Francis Bacon(esque)
