Exercise 1.3 Visualising the studio

Visualising my studio gives me food for thought. The first drawing is definitely how my studio is currently. As you can see there are three main areas for creating. A fourth exists if the printing unit is available. Currently it has a mitre saw on top of it. When there is space in the garage I shall put the mitre saw in the garage. It will be safer to use in there.

My studio as already indicated with the contents is my haven. It can be cluttered and difficult sometimes to work in but it is my sanctuary. I’m at peace creating and just getting totally absorbed in my work. I don’t want to change it. I just love it and I feel so privileged that I have this space where I can be very messy. I have a kettle for hot water and I also have a radio cassette/cd player. What more could I want.

I think that whatever space I am afforded I will be messy and work in chaos. I’m now too old to change. In the ideal world it might be nice to have a first floor studio overlooking the sea and with windows open I could hear gulls and the crashing of the waves but I have to get real and I’m happy with my lot. My studio will serve me well for the future as I can take up to four people once it’s a little less cluttered and I do plan to do some workshops.

I created this short video that really shows my studio at its worst. I think it might match Bacon’s. You are seeing it in its full glory before I tidy and continue with more work. This is my first video on a blog and I’m also working on a motion stop animation. I hope I can get to grips with the editing. Please don’t judge me by this one!
